The “on the hop bet” in Craps

The on the hop bet is the name given to a betting option in craps where a player can put his ante on a range of betting options in the craps table. It is also considered as the secret or whispered bet, for a reason that casinos as well as a secure online casino does not display this option on the craps table. The odds are not that great compared to the regular or well known betting options on the table but considered competent enough for those on the losing brink.

This is basically considered as the easy way and the hard way betting options in craps because generally they are of the same rules. The only thing a player should do is to guess the result of a specific dice combination in a roll that the dealer or his opponents have made, hope that you have place your bet on the right number combination and wait till the roll has ended and the combination's revealed.

Example1: Say you want to put your ante on 2 and 3 and have a “on the hop bet”, tell the dealer the number combination you have bet and the amount of ante you are betting. 2 and 3 simply means that you are in hope than one of the dice will be 2 and the other one will result into 3. the same thing as 5 in the easy way type of craps betting option.

Example2: Say you would want to put your ante on the rolling double numbers 4 and 4 or any other hard numbers such as 6, 8 and 10 or even the boxcars as well as the 2 and 12 snake eyes with a betting option of on the hop the same thing as the hard way type of craps betting option which would result into a hard eight that would generally have a 9:1 payout depending on the casino rules administered on the casino house where you are playing. Getting back into the topic, betting in a on the hop option and having the hard eight result a payout of 30:1 odds is available for you.

So if ever yo
u have $1 ante, you will receive a total of $30 dollars, not bad right. On the other hand this type of bet in craps is a single roll wager so on the next roll you should again hit that number or you'll loose. Although in the hard way type of betting option, each player is given a chance to stay on the game to win or loose once they roll any seven.

Simply the house edge is the same as odds. Almost 13.89 percent of house edge is administered in this type which is totally not ideal. So now you know the reason why casinos usually don't offer this type of bet on their table, plus the fact that there are more ideal betting options you can make in craps with a much better odds.

Just a reminder, if you want to try the on the hop betting option make sure that the dealer understand and knows that option to minimize confusion on both of you.
